Kellie's Story

Kellie Ann Ames Gubler - April 29th 2010 at age 33 was diagnosed with stage III Invasive Lobular Carcinoma (Breast Cancer). She went through 8 intensive rounds of chemo. She had a full mastectomy with 18 lymphnodes taken out, all full of cancer. She went through 28 rounds of radiation and has been on anti-hormone therapy. In the last 2 years she has had 6 surgeries including mastectomy, breast reconstruction, and oopharectomy. On August 17, 2012 she was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. It is currently in her L4 vertebrae, her scapula (right shoulder), her ovaries (which are now out), her uterus and lungs. She has started chemo again and will be doing it weekly for 6 months using Taxol and Avastin. She will also be doing radiation on her back to heal it so that her vertebrae does not break. She is also going in monthly for a bone medicine shot to strengthen and heal her bones. She will then resume a different anti-hormone therapy after chemo. She is also now on oxygen. Her cancer is now NONCURABLE but very treatable. It is now considered chronic, so she will live with this for the rest of her life. The goal is to keep it at bay, yet be able to live as normal as possible, which is called PALLIATIVE care. She is married to her biggest supporter and best friend Dave who by the way has been there every step of the way. And the mother of 3 beautiful, very independent children; Bailee (11), Donovan (8) and Alysa (5).
